Canon: One-Punch Man
Canon Point: Manga Ch. 93 (But I use some info from the webcomic to explain personality points/abilities)
Age: 25
History: http://onepunchman.wikia.com/wiki/SaitamaPersonality: Saitama’s years of training were all an attempt to reach a childhood goal of his: be a superhero. In just three years, he surpassed that goal tenfold. Saitama is the strongest man on Earth, possibly the universe, but one wouldn’t be able to tell just from looking at him. A lot of his time is spent scoping out grocery sales, playing video games, and lazing about at home. To him, being a hero is a hobby.
Even though Saitama calls all of his heroics “just a hobby”, his humbleness and selfless acts distinguish him from the other heroes. His slow ascent up the hero rankings is due to the fact that he doesn’t report his monster kills or solved crimes. There have also been times where Saitama has lied about his strength or hidden it in order to restore the public’s faith in fallen heroes or the police department. He is more concerned about
doing good as opposed to
looking good.
While Saitama performs many heroic deeds, the rest of his personality leads a lot to be desired. He comes off as a bit lacking in social etiquette. He will space out when being talked to, pick his nose in public, sit and read his manga while having guests over, and somehow manage to piss people off with his nonchalance in general. He has very little patience for uptight people who are determined to waste his time babbling about rules or useless information.
Despite Saitama’s tendency to get easily annoyed by others (particularly those who never stop talking), they somehow always end up in his apartment having a cup of tea. His circle of unlikely friends includes an obsessed cyborg disciple, an esper who tried to slash his face with a box knife, and an otaku who took credit for all his early monster kills. Saitama is not the type to hold grudges.
Surprisingly, while Saitama doesn’t hold back when attacking monsters, he exhibits a great amount of control when fighting humans, even the ones that are trying to kill him. More often than not he's simply bored at their attempts to attack him or plays with them a bit before dealing with them. One of his defining moments was sparing the life of a teen everyone had dubbed the “human monster”. Despite the other heroes goading Saitama on to kill him, he was able to see through the teen’s rough exterior and see him for who he truly was.
Abilities:Super StrengthThe greatest of Saitama’s abilities is his super strength. He has so far gone undefeated by any enemy in the series be it human or monster. At Saitama’s current strength level, there have only been two opponents that have taken more than one punch to defeat. He requires very little effort on his own part to exert great amounts of strength. However, for the most part Saitama has great control over his strength in daily life with only a few minor mishaps (broken game controllers).
Enhanced Speed & ReflexesAlong with great strength Saitama has great speed and reflexes. Even when he seems as though he is dazing off or not paying attention, Saitama rarely gets taken by surprise from an attack. He is also able to go toe-to-toe with some of the fastest characters in the series. Oh. One time Saitama accidentally dropped a piece of his lunch from the top of a building and was able to run down the side and catch it before it dropped on the ground.
Increased DefenseIf for some reason Saitama chooses not to dodge an attack, he doesn’t sustain any injuries due to his super defense. In fact, there are times when he purposely lets himself get hit in order to test the opponent’s strength.
Strengths: Laid-back, Honest, Heroic, Humble, Playful.
Weaknesses: Forgetful, (kinda) Rude, Apathetic, Stubborn, Frugal.
God/Shinki: God
Why?: During the Superhero Certification Exam Saitama managed to break ever record by a large margin. The proctor commented that a “god resides in his flesh”. Even though Saitama possesses such great power, he is humble about it and uses it only when necessary. I believe the combination of outstanding strength combined with a sense of justice and a dash of humility makes him a good fit as a god.
Top 3 Choices: Radegast, Guanyin, Ukanomitama
God Type: Seeing as Saitama was a hero and fought crime before he became a god, he continue much of the same work. Although some of his greatest feats have been wild and fantastical, he has also done small tasks like helping find a little girl’s missing cat. Saitama would try his best to follow his previous incarnation’s duties, but he might need some persuasion and motivation to actually get up and do the work. He also might accidentally cause more collateral damage than it’s worth.
Power: Night Vision
Writing SampleSample: Here! And another because I am paranoid…
“Genos! I’m home,” Saitama’s voice rang out dully as he took off his shoes at the doorway.
In his hand was a plastic bag from the convenience store. The cheap one over in that Near Shore place. When Saitama stepped in the living room he noticed his former disciple sitting at the table taking notes in a journal. The scene almost made Saitama feel as though they were back in their old home. Almost. Their current residence was far larger than the cramped apartment back home, but the biggest difference was Genos. Glancing up, his shinki’s eyes held the same determination as usual, but their gaze was distant and borderline inattentive. It made Saitama sick to his stomach.
Everything in this new world was the same, but different. He was still living together with a devoted, yet annoying, teen cyborg. He still felt the same apathy at the constant monster-of-the-week shenanigans even though the tables had turned slightly. He even had to look for odd jobs around the city to help pay for things again. Even though all of that was the same, Saitama never felt more out of place in his life.
His shinki’s gaze fell to the bag in his hand and Saitama held it out.
“Here. I, uh, got these for you,” he said. Inside the bag were a pair of light green house slippers.
The first time Saitama had bought Genos slippers it was an afterthought. He had seen them on the clearance rack at their local home goods store and he threw them into his basket last minute. It seemed as though his cyborg disciple would be staying a while, so why not?
This time it had felt a lot more calculated. Saitama had seen this pair at the convenience store he frequented and it immediately reminded him of his old home. Or more accurately, the person
in his old home. Ever since arriving here Saitama had to start coming to terms with the fact that the Genos in front of him was different from the one he knew before. Neither of them ever spoke of it, a crushing sense of dread hit Saitama whenever he wanted to bring it up, but there was always the feeling of something being off. It was selfish, stupid, and probably a bad idea, but Saitama had purchased the slippers in an attempt to… to… he didn’t even know what. Possibly a futile attempt to jog Genos’ memory or an equally futile attempt to bring back some of the atmosphere from their old home.
“I figured since you’re gonna be staying with me a while I’d better make sure you’re comfy. That’s what your god’s supposed to do, right?”
OtherAnything Else?: I’d like to be paired up with my friend’s Genos please!
